Are the coconut shells flammable?

Coconut shells can be flammable in their natural state. However, at CocoZen, we take extra precautions to ensure safety. Our coconut shells are soaked in a natural seawater bath for no less than 48 hours, with a 30% sea salt concentration, effectively making them fire-resistant. Additionally, we add a 1/2-inch layer of fatural silicon sand at the bottom of each shell. This layer is designed to snuff out the flame at the 1/2-inch mark, following safety guidelines set forth by the National Candle Association.

Does having the sand added affect the burn time of the candle?

No, it doesn't. In all of our testing, we ensure the candles are snuffed out once they reach just over the 1/4-inch mark from the bottom. This design prioritizes safety while still providing the full burn time as advertised, and still keeping it all natural.

Why is my candle sweating while burning?

Since the wax is sitting in is a real natural coconut shell, they could "sweat" coconut oil or even wax, this is usually a sign that the candle has been left on for over the recommended 4 hours and is very hot. Extinguish the candle using a snuffer and wait the recommended 2 hours for it to cool down before inspecting it. Stick to the CocoZen "Light to Life" candle guide to avoid this potential problem.
